Get to Know Us

Established in 1988, the Revelstoke Heritage Railway Society (RHRS) began construction of the museum in 1992, opening its doors to the public in 1993.

Discover Canada's railway heritage in one of Canada's premiere railway museums, showcasing the history of the Canadian Pacific Railway in the Columbia Mountains, and the role the railway and its workers have played in building Canada as a nation.

The museum showcases the historic construction and operation of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Western Canada's mountain region. The history of the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Mountains of Western Canada is one about great changes in geography, industry and the movement of people, playing a pivotal role in the creation of Canada as a nation. The Revelstoke Railway Museum plays a valuable and essential role in collecting, preserving and interpreting this history.

Mission

  • The Revelstoke Heritage Railway Society will preserve, share and inspire a sense of wonder and awe for our Canadian Pacific Railway story.

Values

  • Community Orientation: The RHRS believes that the community is a critical component of its ongoing and long term sustainability. The knowledge, resources, leadership and support that the community brings are an invaluable part of the RHRS success.

  • Heritage Protection: The RHRS believes that museums play a key role in preserving society’s connection to our cultural and natural history. Museums’ ability to protect and preserve our heritage is a critical element to a healthy society.

  • Accessibility: The RHRS believes that the ability of everyone to participate and engage in the history of the railway is extremely important. As such, improving accessibility to all exhibits and all facilities and considering the infrastructure required to improve accessibility is highly valued by the RHRS.
